[For Andersen’s Fans] Holy Grail

Anyone knows or remembers The Fairytaler? It is a Danish animated TV series that ran from 1998 to 2003, whose episodes are based on the tales written by Hans Christian Andersen. Basically, they turned everyone’s favorite fairytales with the likes of “The Little Mermaid,” “The Ugly Duckling” and friends—into animated form. One episode tells one tale, with the exception of “The Snow Queen” (which laid the groundwork for Frozen) that is divided into two parts/episodes.

The Fairytaler is one of the children’s shows I fondly grew up with amidst the Japan invasion in early 2000’s where our TV became all Anime-stricken on Sundays. One of the episodes that I know by heart is “The Bottleneck.” A story about a bottle that leads an eventful life, from being filled with the best wine in town, to serving as a water glass for bird in a cage. Haha If the series was an important part of your childhood like it was of mine, surely, you’d love what I just found on Youtube! The holy grail.

A.N. Each and every title above should be clickable and will direct you to said video, except for ones whose videos do not exist or have not been uploaded by the channel’s administrators. I shall keep this list updated with links to new videos, but if you feel like I have stopped and neglected it, kindly point it out and tell me. Please be patient if the admins have yet to share the rest of the episodes. Don’t kind of screw it up which can end up with them taking down their videos altogether.

Those are all the episodes. Only those titles? Right, that’s all we got so far. H. C. Andersen has left hundreds of stories as his legacy, but only thirty one of them were included in the series. Even the other culturally influential and renowned ones like “Sandman” and “The Little Match Girl” did not make the cut, I too wonder why. But anyway, have a good time strolling down memory lane and enjoy yourself!
