Relatable Drama

By drama, I mean Korean drama. But wait, up, try not to roll those eyes first! This drama is different, not a typical cutesy cheesy Korean drama. You wouldn't know how cringeworthy your past favorite dramas were, before you see this one. A perfect blend I never knew I needed from a romcom, I think it has set the bar high for the quality of next romcoms I'll want to see. It's titled My Name is Kim Sam Soon a.k.a My Lovely Sam Soon. Sit back and buckle up, here's a spoilery post about one of my favorite shows which unequivocally is the best thing since sliced bread!

Kim Sam Soon (Kim Sun Ah) is an unemployed thirty year old woman who despises her old-fashioned name. In the New Year's eve, she follows her cheating boyfriend into a hotel, gets dumped and ends up in the restroom - heartbroken and bawling her eyes out. Waiting in the same place is Hyun Jin Heon (Hyun Bin), the son of a wealthy hotelier as well as owner of a French restaurant in his 20's, who, upon hearing her wails, begins knocking on the stall. Sam Soon flings the door open in anger, smeared mascara underneath her swollen eyes and hair in disarray. Once her brain registers that it's Men's Restroom, she starts to panic then works her way out in a rush.

Wait up, things only get better from there.

After the first awkward encounter, the two protagonists run into each other again and this time, it goes horribly wrong with Sam Soon's locks unwittingly got stuck in Jin Heon's zipper. He goes and chops the strands off, resulting in the woman violently tossing a whole self-made cake she brings along right in his face. (To most women, their hair is their crown and glory.) Jin Heon is shown ambivalent, but after wiping the icing off his face and gets a taste of it, he abruptly gets up to go after Sam Soon as he was astonished by it. He offered her a job as pastry chef at his restaurant, Bon Appètit. She accepts.

Events suddenly took another awkward turn, when Jin Heon asked Sam Soon to be her girlfriend. No, not really, since it's just a play pretend to stop his cynical mom from setting him up on more matchmaking dates. LOL She gives a nod in favor of a large sum of money her family desperately needs at the moment, so they clinch the deal But to make things complicated (hence DRAMA), Jin Heon's ex who left him years back, shows up out of the blue and makes a re-entrance to his life. Cliché much? This beyond doubt makes Sam Soon feel a little confused, and somewhat betrayed. Just because, what does that make her? Especially when her own feelings start to get involved in the hot plate of mess. Oopsss. 1. When you go to club for the first time
